I do believe they have onedrive and file system and even OPDS integration now (though last time I checked they didn't support digest auth password protection on OPDS, which is shameful), but the Bookvisor account and upload also still exists.

If you want to read a MOBI ebook on PC, you would need special software to open it. This is a popular ebook format that is typically used on smartphones, PDAs and Amazon Kindle readers. I have no concrete proof, but I would not be surprised at all if they were harvesting books for piracy (I have nothing against cracking DRM for personal use space and/or format shifting, in order to use your purchased books where you wish, but piracy is a different matter). Mysterious MOBI files that you are probably struggling with at the moment refer to Mobipocket eBook file. It was either put your unprotected books on a shady server that will do who knows what with them, or don't use the app. There was no skydrive (as it was called at the time) or other cloud service integration, no file system integration or file extension hooks (why I believe this started on WP7, because those features came with WP8), no OPDS support, nothing. When Bookvisor first launched (I believe it was on WP7, for reasons that I will explain), the only way to get a book into the app was to create a Bookvisor account on some server hosted in Russia and then upload your books to their server so that they could be pulled down to your phone. I suppose they've gotten better (though their book rendering still leaves a lot to be desired, which is sad given that rendering is everything to an ebook reader), but I just don't trust them.
